As part of this Autumn’s focus on ‘Public Sculpture, Public Art’, we met with artist Alex Chinneck and Megan Piper, co-founder of The Line, to discuss their respective public sculpture projects on the Greenwich Peninsula.
Meeting at NOW Gallery, we were given a behind-the-scenes insight into the making of A Bullet from a Shooting Star, Alex’s flagship project for the 2015 London Design Festival. After a screening of a short video made during the production and installation stages of the project, Alex shared further details on the work’s production and commissioning and took questions. He then took us out to see the sculpture in the real.
From there, Megan Piper led a tour of the south end of the The Line, London’s first public sculpture trail featuring modern and contemporary works, exploring the artworks in situ around the Greenwich Peninsula and Victoria Dock. These include sculptures by Thomas & Craighead, Gary Hume and Eduardo Paolozzi. Megan offered insights into the project, including how it came about, selecting the artworks, installing, and how she plans to develop The Line over the coming years.
