A few highlights below from Sculpture and the Body, our short-course for children aged 6 – 11, delivered over three-days in October half-term 2024.
In Sculpture and the Body, we delved into exploring materials in relation to the body, working with scale, shape, form, texture and volume to transform the body’s appearance and how we interact/perform. Activities included one-minute sculptures (designed to be humorous and playful), finding ways to connect our made sculptures to our body (such as making a sculpture for your hands/fingers), and exploring the use of contrasting textures and how they feel when met with the body.
“My child had the most wonderful experience at it. Typically there is very little provision of this type – other provision is largely sports, STEM, entertainment, crafting, cinema trips, soft play and all the way down to basic “keep them alive, fed and watered… and under control”! This three day experience was thoughtful and engaging for the kids, well, certainly from mine (and it seems from other parents I spoke to, theirs as well). It gave permission to the children to experiment creatively, without rules or constraint. So often children are asked to produce something as an output. Granted, there was an exhibition at the end of the three days, but it really felt as though the focus was on freedom of expression and artistic practice, rather than “make something to put in a show”.”

“The 3 days Caitlin, Frankie and Eli attended the course was absolutely amazing! I can’t even describe how happy the kids were and how much they thoroughly enjoyed every day! They are so excited to attend the next one. I am so pleased I came across Pangaea!”
Michelle Avery
“Having not wanted to do any summer clubs for the last year and a half, my little guy is a bit upset it’s over, upset it was only three days, loved being able to do whatever he wanted and moaning that he’s just discovered the best summer club ever and he’ll be too old by next year… I think he enjoyed himself!”
Phillipa Skipp
“It was so fun, you were free to do or make whatever you wanted. You could make dens, you could make a bridge, you could make a marble run, you could make play dough. You arrive and there is just loads of materials to build and play with and the staff encourage and support you in whatever you do.”
Freddy, age 11.
“Phoebe had such a great time, she was so excited to go every morning. She loved the freedom to be creative and messy and felt very encouraged and supported my Lauren and Abi. The exhibition at the end was so lovely, it was wonderful to see all the children expressing themselves through art and they all seemed so proud of themselves which was the best bit.”
